Depending On Who You Believe: T’was the Night Before the Window Closed

As the transfer window gets smaller and smaller, the rumors tend to get wilder and wilder; in Liverpool’s case, it’s a bit more of the same. It was confirmed late last night that Stoke have tabled a bid somewhere between £4mil – £5mil for Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam. Potters boss Tony Pulis is looking to add a bit of creativity to their stagnant center of the park before the August 31st deadline, and apparently Adam is on his wishlist. We’ve heard that Charlie, who arrived just last summer in a £9mil move from Blackpool, wants to stay and fight for his spot, but with the arrival of Joe Allen from Swansea City and Real Madrid loanee Nuri Sahin, spaces in the midfield will come at a premium. Now, if Chuck wants to play, he may want to follow Jay Spearing out the door.

The local lad has found getting a match tough around Anfield since Brendan Rodgers took charge and has now agreed to a season long loan with npower Championship side Bolton Wanderers. There were some whispers just a few days back that Bolton boss Owen Coyle was preparing a £3m bid for the misfit midfielder, but Brendan Rodgers isn’t ready to let Spearing go quite yet and would only agree to a loan. With the ranks starting to thin out in the center of the park, does this mean that we’ll be seeing Jordan Henderson out and about again?

Now that we’ve got Adam and Spearing on the move, what’s going on with big Andy? It seems that no one knows what’s going to happen with the man from Gateshead and even though staying and fighting for his place has become the summers catchiest slogan, it’s looking like the exit could sign catch up to him. Rodgers has admitted that the Reds are in no position to have a £35mil striker sitting on the bench as third-choice. If that doesn’t sound ominous, then what does?

If Carroll does leave, then rumors are rife that it could set off a crazy domino effect across the league with bids being submitted and backup or contingency players being shuffled around. Theo Walcott? Yeah, we’re apparently in for him if someone takes big Andy off our hands. The Arsenal attacker has been stalling on a new contract at the Emirates prompting suggestions that he could be moving on. Brendan Rodgers is though to be a keen admirer of the 23 year old and although Arsene Wenger is adamant that  Walcott is going nowhere, stranger things have happened. Like, you know, Clint Dempsey finally going somewhere.

It’s been the ongoing transfer saga of the summer and with Liverpool still refusing to meet Fulham’s valuation for the want-away striker, you have to wonder if the poor guy is ever going to get his move away. If for some reason Charlie Adam isn’t signed up for Stoke by the end of the window, there’s been whispers about sending him down London way in part exchange for the American after Martin Jol accepted a bid for Moussa Dembélé which saw the influential midfielder move to Tottenham. If we want him, now’s the time. Tick tock goes the clock.
