Report – Liverpool have moved to sign £43million playmaker – Face competition
Liverpool are flying high in the Premier League at the moment and reports suggest that they are linked with numerous top quality players.
According to Calcio Mercato, Liverpool have moved to sign Dutch international and Lyon star Memphis Depay.
News – Liverpool have an edge to secure signing of £111million attacker in summer – Report
The renowned Italian news source have claimed that the playmaker’s current contract with the Ligue 1 club will expire in 2021 and he is valued at 50 million euros (£43million).
Playing position, stats and performance:
Naturally, Depay is a left winger but he has been deployed in the CAM and CF roles as well. In the current campaign, Lyon have mainly utilized him as a striker.
He left PSV Eindhoven to join Manchester United in 2015 but failed to impress in the Premier League and was offloaded to Lyon in the winter transfer window of 2017.
In the second half of the 2016-17 campaign, the Netherlands star directly contributed in 13 goals in as many starts in the Ligue 1. Next season, he started 28 league games for Lyon and directly contributed in no fewer than 32 goals.
In the 2018-19 campaign, the 25-year-old, directly contributed in 20 goals in the league. This season, so far, he has scored 4 goals in as many Champions League appearances (Transfermarkt). On the other hand, in the league, so far, in 9 starts, he has directly contributed in 8 goals (7 goals and 1 assist) for the French club.
The Dutch star has already made 51 appearances for the senior national team and scored 19 goals.
Competition:
As per Calcio Mercato, Tottenham have also moved for Depay. Not to forget, Jose Mourinho was the manager of Man United when the playmaker was allowed to leave Old Trafford.
Now, the Portuguese is the head coach of Spurs, who have quality attacking players in the form of Alli, Son, Eriksen and Moura.
On the other hand, at Anfield, Liverpool do need to bring in an attacker but if the player decides to move to the European champions then he will likely tarnish his reputation at Manchester United forever.
Last month, Lyon’s Director of Football, Juninho, confirmed that the Red Devils have got the first option to re-sign the attacker if several clubs line up to lure him (OL).
Have your say – Should Klopp sign Memphis Depay in the winter transfer window?
Yes yes we need him, although we are flying high at the moment, Depay should come and fortify our ( Liverpool) attack. I know Jurgen Kloop will not say ‘No’ when the January window opens.
