Three changes – Liverpool’s strongest possible 4-3-3 XI vs Southampton
Liverpool won their opening PL game of the season against Norwich last weekend and on Wednesday night, the Reds defeated Chelsea to win the European Super Cup.
Next up, tomorrow, the Merseysiders will collide against Southampton away from home.
As far as Liverpool’s team news is concerned, we can expect Jurgen Klopp to make a few changes in the squad that started vs the Blues in the midweek contest that was decided on penalties.
Spanish goalie, Adrian, made the all important save in the penalty shoot-out to win the Super Cup for Liverpool. The new signing is a doubt after a fan hurt his ankle after the victory (The Daily Mail) but if fit, he should start vs the Saints.
In the back-line, Gomez started in the right back role vs Chelsea and Alexander-Arnold should return and replace his compatriot. Matip, Van Dijk and Robertson could retain their places in the starting XI.
As far as the midfield is concerned, Fabinho was tired at the end of the Super Cup fixture and the Brazilian should be rested. In his place, Henderson, who started in the CM role (vs Chelsea), could start as the main defensive midfielder.
Naby Keita missed the game in the midweek due to a muscle strain (LFC), so, it will not come as any surprise if he is absent tomorrow as well. Wijnaldum should return to the starting XI in place of Milner. On the other hand, Oxlade-Chamberlain, who started in the attack (vs Chelsea), should start in the center of the park (vs Southampton).
In the attack, Firmino should return to partner Mane and Salah. Here is Liverpool’s strongest possible 4-3-3 XI vs Southampton:
