Keane “Flattered” by Interest, Dortmund Set “Outrageous” Aubameyang Price
If there’s one position that Liverpool fans around the world would like to see filled when the transfer window opens this summer, it’s a high class centre-back to join Joel Matip in the heart of the Reds defence. While the name of Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk has been kicked around a fair amount, he’s not the only ball playing defender the Anfield outfit is harbouring a interest in.
“It’s flattering to see, but I’m focused on Burnley,” said reported Liverpool target Michael Keane, speaking to the pres after making his England debut in the narrow loss to Germany earlier in the week. “We’ve got nine games left in the season and we need to make sure we remain in the league,” added the Clarets defender, before admitting that being linked to a number of top tier clubs has given him a spring in the step. “But to see things like that can only mean you’re playing well.”
And, in a similar vein, if there’s one thing that gets the rumour mill churning, it’s the Reds being linked to a blazing hot striker. While it’s never looked like becoming a reality, the Anfield outfit reportedly still harbours an interest in bringing Borussia Dortmund hit-man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Merseyside. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, of course, knows all about the 27-year old having managed him during his time with the German club, but not only does their shared history mean just about nothing, his price tag will scare off all but the richest suitors.
“As of yet, I have no information that suggests Auba will leave Dortmund. If we were to reach that point, we will sit down and listen to each other, we have a lot of respect for Auba and he deserves that,” said Dortmund chief executive Joachim Watzke, being realistic. “But there are not an awful lot of clubs that would be a step forward for him in my opinion. Either way, he will only leave Dortmund for an outrageous transfer fee if he does move,” confirmed the German, before throwing down the gauntlet. “If he continues to keep scoring we will have no problem in collecting €65 million.”
