Hull City Sign Markovic on Loan, Liverpool Talking to Sporting About Carvalho

After agreeing to end his season long loan spell with Portuguese side Sporting CP early, Liverpool have confirmed that misfit winger Lazar Markovic has joined fellow Premier League side Hull City FC until the end of the campaign.

Sitting just one place off the foot of the table going in to the business end of the campaign, the Tigers need to start picking up points in a big way if they want to stave off relegation to the Championship. Hull boss Marco Silva has seen the Serbian winger at his best, having been in charge of Primeira Liga side G.D. Estoril Praia during Markovic’s one season with Benfica and he’ll be hoping that the 22-year old can recapture the kind of form that ended up earning him a big money move to Anfield in the summer of 2014.

And, while Sporting were in the process of ditching the the Serbian early, the Reds apparently took this chance to bend their ear over their highly rated defensive midfielder William Carvalho. A long term target for Arsenal and a player who has attracted the attentions of a number of top clubs, the addition of the 24-year old to Liverpool’s ranks would go a long way to shoring up their continually shaky back-line, but they’ll have to pay for the privilege with Portuguese media outlet A Bola suggesting a fee in the region of £25mil for the big man.

Now, whether or not Carvalho will fit in to the Reds system remains a topic open to argument — more defensive destroyer than box-to-box bomb-on midfielder, the Portugal international isn’t exactly a one trick pony, but he knows what he a can do and he does it well. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp obviously knows all this and if the German is actually looking to shell out for his services, then he must as sick as the rest of us of watching his side leak silly, unnecessary goals.
