CONFIRMED: Luis Alberto Completes Lazio Switch
After he arrived for a medical in the Italian capital yesterday, Liverpool have confirmed that midfielder Luis Alberto has completed a move to Serie A side Lazio for a fee that could eventually rise to £6mil — along with a 30% sell-on clause, the Reds will take in an initial payment of £4.3mil up front with the remainder being triggered by various add-ons.
The Spaniard, who arrived from La Liga side Sevilla for £6.8mil three years ago under then boss Brendan Rodgers, was always going to be a bit of a gamble — money that could have been better spent having a punt at Casino UK | online casino. Unproven in the Los Rojiblancos first team, the 23-year old arrived on Merseyside along with the likes of Iago Aspas and Tiago Illori as the club tried out their statistical “money-ball” approach to an often chaotic market.
While the Liverpool transfer committee has scored a few gems that way, for Alberto, it never quite worked out. Spending the last two seasons on loan, the midfielder moves to Lazio having been told that he’s surplus to requirements at Anfield by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. The Spaniard, of course, isn’t the only one with more departures expected ahead of the window closing tonight.
Mario Balotelli is expected to complete a move to French side Nice as Liverpool look to get the troublesome Italian off their books and Mamadou Sakho, who has been encouraged to go out on loan, is reportedly considering his options despite a strong desire to stay with the Reds and fight for his place in the squad. Although it was expected that young duo Lazar Markovic and Tiago Ilori would have been out the door by now, it appears that both will be staying for the time being with a move to Championship side Newcastle United for the Serbian winger and a loan to Spanish side Granada for the Portuguese defender apparently hitting the skids.
