Liverpool Baulk at Chilwell Price, May Do the Same With Robertson

Liverpool are set to consider their options with their bid for Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell turned away by Premier League champions Leicester City. It’s believed that the Reds are unwilling to meet the Foxes valuation of the player after an initial bid of £5mil plus £2mil in additional add-ons was rejected outright.

Rumour has it that they’d be willing to listen to offers in the region of £10mil for the England U-21 defender, but that appears to be a bridge too far for the Anfield outfit. Considering that the 19-year old is yet to make his Premier League debut, that’s not exactly bad logic, but now Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been sent back to the drawing board.

The German is looking to provide incumbent left-back Alberto Moreno with some real competition for the starting eleven this season with the Spaniard often looking complacent in a spot that currently doesn’t have a lot of competition at Anfield. While the likes of Brad Smith and even Jon Flanagan can fill in, the former isn’t ready for prime-time and the latter is far more comfortable on the right flank. While the Reds have been heavily linked with FC Köln fullback Jonas Hector with the German almost certain to command a princely sum after being given a starting role in their Euro-2016 squad.

Although it’s rumoured that Chilwell is keen to work with Klopp, the Reds manager could turn his attentions to young Hull City defender Andrew Robertson with the Scottish up-and-comer on the radar of a number of clubs. He might still be young, but with both a Premier League and Championship campaign behind him, he’s far more experienced that Chilwell. Having put in 52-appearances as the Tigers gained promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs last season, the 22-year old is being tipped as a serious alternative to his 19-year old counterpart — though reports are suggesting that the newly promoted side will look to hose anyone that comes asking for around £12mil to take him off their books.
