James Milner Keeps Impressive Premier League Record Alive in Man City Win
Not only did Liverpool complete a memorable double over Manchester City at Anfield yesterday by heaping a resounding 3-0 victory on top of the 4-1 drubbing they dished out at the Etihad Stadium back in November, but they also kept alive James Milner’s impressive record of never losing a Premier League game that he’s scored in.
“I actually read it in the programme before the game,” admitted the former Citizens midfielder, who bagged the second goal of the night. “I thought that I was going to jinx it and break it!” he laughed, looking a touch sheepish. “But luckily enough it carried on and long may it continue.”
After turning down a lucrative offer to extend his contract with Manuel Pellegrini’s side, the 30-year old made the move to Merseyside during the summer in search of more playing time and a larger role to play in the squad. Handed the vice-captain’s armband by then manager Brendan Rodgers, Milner has thus far made 22 league appearances for the Anfield outfit and he added his name to the history books last night by claiming the Reds 1,500th Premier League goal.
There was no bad player – that’s good, that’s really good that they all played really good,” enthused Reds boss Jurgen Klopp in his post-match interview. “Emre Can, second game in a row in this performance, this role, was really good. Hendo’s reaction tonight was great,” he continued, before singling out Milner for some special praise. “Millie strong against his former club for a second time – maybe he should always play against Manchester City!”
