Sinclair to Leave Liverpool in Summer, Southampton Turn Down Long Bid

Ahead of the FA Cup replay with League Two side Exeter City at Anfield on Wednesday, it’s been revealed that youngster Jerome Sinclair, who made his first competitive start and scored his first senior goal for the Reds during the meeting at St James Park, will leave the club in the summer.

The 19-year old, who moved to Merseyside from the West Bromwich Albion youth setup, has been wrangling over a new contract and it now appears that talks have broken down to a point where an agreement is no longer possible. Represented by the infamous Aidy Ward, who also handles ex-Reds winger Raheem Sterling, it comes as little surprise that Sinclair is heading for the exit door with move to Spain side Espanyol currently being mooted.

The question remains whether or not Sinclair will be in the squad that squares up to the Grecians midweek with his exit set to leave the club even thinner up top, but it sounds like Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be looking to fix that before January is up by dipping into the transfer market for some help.

The Reds struggles in front of the net have been well documented and with Danny Ings out for the season and both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge occupying the treatment table, the wily German has apparently made a move for Southampton striker Shane Long — an offer that was promptly rejected by the Saints even though they’ve brought in Queens Park Rangers man Charlie Austin to bolster their ranks. The £8mmil proposal, which would see the Irishman become the sixth player to move from Saint Mary’s to Anfield since the summer of 2014, is apparently still on the table, but with Euro-2016 right around the corner, the 28-year old could opt to stay on the South Coast to bolster his chances of staying in Martin O’Neill’s plans for the show-piece event.
