Mamadou Sakho Set to Return for Festive Fixtures
Coming back into contention for a starting place ahead of schedule, Liverpool fans around the world will be delighted with the news that Mamadou Sakho will be available for the busy festive period with the French defender making a return to full training yesterday.
It’s been five weeks since the 25-year old picked up a knee injury in the narrow 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, and though Dejan Lovren has filled in quite well in his absence, with the glut of matches on the horizon the more options available to Reds boss Jurgen Klopp the better.
“Mama has trained now. He had his first session with the team yesterday and if nothing happens, he has to go on and carry on with training,” confirmed the German manager ahead of the meeting with West Bromwich Albion later today. “That’s what he needs now,” he continued. “There are no more issues with the knee and everything is okay, now he has to work to be a real option for us,” explained Klopp, before adding, “Next week for sure, he will be available if nothing more happens.”
The Reds boss had previously confirmed that the knock the Frenchman sustained wasn’t as bad as initially feared, but he refused to put a timeline on his return. It was expected that he’d be out until at least early on in the New Year, but it’ll be a huge boon to their cause with him back in contention for a spot in the squad. Although he’s not expected to play any part against the Baggies, Sakho could make a return to action when Liverpool travel to Vicarage Road to meet newly promoted Watford next Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed…
