Liverpool New Boys Pick Their Shirt Numbers

Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market since the end of the season with five players already snapped up by the Anfield outfit. Manchester City man James Milner, Bolton Wanderers ‘keeper Adam Bogdan and Burnley FC striker Danny Ings are all set to meet up with the Reds when their contracts expire at the beginning of July while Charlton Athletic youngster Joe Gomez and Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino have both made the move to Merseyside after successful negotiations with the club.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, Milner, who arrives at Liverpool with two Premier League titles and an FA Cup to his name after a fruitful spell with the Citizens, is expected to be handed the iconic number seven shirt. Anfield legends such as Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish made it famous during their trophy laden time on Merseyside, but in recent years it’s best known as the shirt that former Kop idol and current Barcelona hit-man Luis Suarez wore throughout his two and a half years with the club.

Liverpool, who formally announced the transfer of Brazilian forward Firmino only yesterday, will reportedly hand him the number eleven jersey after he requested it. The 23-year old is set to meet up with the Reds squad following the Copa America where he’ll under-go a routine medical and work permit hearing before finalizing his move to the Premier League.

Ings, on the other hand, is on his way for a brief vacation ahead of pre-season after the England u21 side crashed out of the European Championships yesterday. The former Burnley man has selected the number twenty-eight, reasoning that he’ll have to earn one of the more famous numbers.
