Liverpool Reportedly Keeping Tabs on Lyon Playmaker Yoann Gourcuff
The winter transfer window may be behind us, but the rumour mill never closes completely with the agent of Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff suggesting that Liverpool could re-ignite the apparent interest they showed in the 28-year old last month.
While it seems plausible that the Reds would be interested in signing the Ligue One sides prolific hit-man Alexandre Lacazette rather than an ageing central midfielder, Gourcuff’s agent Didier Poulmaire has suggested otherwise. In his younger days, while plying his trade with fellow French side Bordeaux, the tricky attacker was a hot property on the European market, but a series of injuries and his exile from the national team have made him look less like Zinedine Zidane — who he drew comparisons too — and more like Bruno Cheyrou.
Despite all that, Poulmaire has insisted that the creme de la creme are still interested in his client. “In any transfer window some foreign clubs are always knocking on the door for Yoann,” he told French media outlet Sport Mediaset. “In the past it was Manchester City who came forward, while this year it happened with Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. The top clubs follow him and know his talent and I am sure offers will come during the next transfer window.”
Liverpool, of course, are set to lose quite a bit of experience in the middle of the park when long serving skipper Steven Gerrard departs for the LA Galaxy this summer. The future of Lucas, long linked with a move to Serie A, is also in question so a move for a veteran doesn’t seem all too far fetched, but rumours strongly suggesting that the Reds will look to splash the cash on AS Roma wizard Miralem Pjanic this summer — not to mention to wealth of creative players at the disposal of boss Brendan Rodgers — begs the question of exactly where Gourcuff would fit in should he move to Merseyside?
Name dropping by an agent trying to stir up interest. Usually means no big club is interested in them.
