Italian Journalists Confirm Liverpool are in Talks for Xherdan Shaqiri
After narrowly missing out long term target Xherdan Shaqiri during a busy summer, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has apparently come back in with a permanent offer for the Bayern Munich outcast as the Northern Irishman looks to get his transfer business done early.
With the transfer window set to officially open tomorrow, the Reds are said to be making finally capturing the signature of the Swiss attacker a top priority. While one could argue that the Anfield outfit should be looking to bring in a proven striker to supplement the constantly injured Daniel Sturridge and bring in a ‘keeper whose confidence level isn’t quite as fragile as the struggling Simon Mignolet, but if you believe Italian journalists, the club are putting all that aside in the pursuit of their man.
Well known journalist Fabrizio Romano, who contributes to Calciomercato and Sky Sports among others, tweeted yesterday that although Liverpool have yet to table a formal offer, they are in talks to sign the player on a permanent deal with the German giants looking for a fee somewhere around €15mil for his services. Fellow Sky pundit Guglielmo Cannavale echoed those sentiments, though both also made note that Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in the 23-year old — though only on loan with an option to buy.
Going into yesterday’s disappointing draw with Leicester City, Rodgers played down the club’s aspirations in the market, saying that they will do very little business if any at all. Whether he ends up heading for Merseyside or not, Shaqiri does look set to leave Bayern this winter with the player himself repeatedly speaking about a move away from the Allianz Arena and club president Franz Beckenbauer confirming that they’d be open to offers for the Swiss star.
