Xherdan Shaqiri Cleared to Leave Bayern Munich in January

Ready to hit the road

Although Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club isn’t looking to bring in any new players when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year, confirmation from Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer that long term target Xherdan Shaqiri could be available in January may change things for the Anfield outfit.

The Swiss international, who the Reds have been heavily linked with and reportedly made a move for during the summer, has failed to fight his way into Pep Guardiola’s first team plans and has continually stated that first team football is his overriding priority. Shaqiri has not only stated a desire to one day play in England, but has ackowledged that a move to Anfield was a realistic option for him before the Bavarian club blocked his transfer — something that apparently won’t happen in January.

“Bayern have already sent out a signal and indicated to him that he can probably go into the winter break, when he wants” said Beckenbauer when asked about the future of the 23-year old. “I think it’s a shame because he is a great talent.”

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a known admirer of the Swiss attackers talents and he could be tempted by the relatively low £15mil price tag reportedly on his head. Whether or not that happens is a different story altogether, and though it sounds more like he’s trying to give the players under his wing a boost of confidence ahead of their crunch meeting with PFC Ludogorets in the Champions League later today, the Northern Irishman put a damper on any talk of a spending spree this winter. “It is not something I am looking at,” he said when asked about potential moves for new players in January.

If results keep up the way they are, the Reds may be left with no other choice…

Think he’d be an ideal player for LFC could really help lift the team & add some real attack flare that we are obviously missing at the moment.£15 sounds like a bargain compared to what we spent on certain players in the summer.only problem being is he is unlikely to sign for us if a more attractive club comes in for him.other than 1st team football & a decent wage we have very little else to offer at the moment.but please let him sign.could be a real big step in the right direction & definitely more likely than Marco Reus.although I’d love that to happen as much as anyone.

I think a lot of it depends on whether or not we stay in the Champions League. If we can get through to the next round, we’ll have a better shot of bringing in players of his quality.

It definitely helps but it didn’t land Sanchez.he chose Arsenal over us when we demolished them home & away.finished above them in the league & played some of the best attacking football in Europe.he spouted some excuse about London being better than Liverpool to live.he probably knew we couldn’t come close to replicating that without saurez.i truly hope your right & I couldn’t be further from the truth but honestly if you were a world class player would you want to go to LFC right now.the hope we have their is, they truly want to play for us & believe they can make the difference.a lot of wishful thinking me thinks.

Nah. He’s 23. That makes him too old for Liverpools current policy of buying promising babies hoping they will achieve somethingby 2025. Then can be sold on for a fat profit!
