Victor Valdes’ Agent Set for Liverpool Talks Next Week

Inching closer

Liverpool’s on again, off again move for former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes looks to be very much on again with respected Reds news site This is Anfield reporting that the Spaniards agent is set to meet the Merseyside club next week in an effort to seal his move to the Premier League giants.

Valdes’ agent Gines Carvajal rubbished reports from earlier in the week that the three time Champions League winner turned down an offer to train with Liverpool for four days, instead insisting that an offer had yet to be made to his client. While that all sounded reasonable enough, many media sources argued that it was mere semantics and instead chose to perpetuate rumours of the deals collapse. Well, if this latest bit of news proves to be true, they’re going to look mighty foolish.

Although Carvajal will reportedly be at Melwood next week to finalize the particulars of the deal, there are still suggestions that anything official could still be weeks away with Liverpool keen to have the 32-year old prove his fitness before any deal is done. Even if Valdes does prove himself fit, a short term deal, along with a number of caveats in the contract itself, will be offered with the option to extend for a longer period should everything come up aces.

The Reds are keen to not only provide competition to incumbent ‘keeper Simon Mignolet, but they’re also looking for cover with Champions League experience should the Belgian’s poor form continue. Valdes has experience in spades and is reportedly keen on joining up with the Anfield outfit with some suggesting that he’s even prepared to take a big pay-cut to do so.

Now that’s motivation…
