While he was being widely tipped to make his return from injury against Queens Park Rangers this Sunday, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers sounded a little less than certain when queried about the likelihood of Daniel Sturridge featuring against the Hoops.

The 24-year old has been sidelined with a thigh injury since the last international break, and though he’s returned to full training, the Reds have yet to confirm that he’s match fit. “We’ll have a look tomorrow and see how Dan is” said the Northern Irishman in his pre-match press conference at Melwood earlier today. “Obviously he’s been out a long time, since the last break. I’ve got an incredible sports science team here. He’s an incredible talent and I’m sure he’ll be looking forward to coming back.”

Kopites everywhere will also be looking forward to him coming back. Liverpool have struggled this season to re-create the kind of blistering form that saw them press eventual champions Manchester City to the last day in the title race. Injuries have hampered the Reds progress this season with a number of high profile names coming back to Merseyside banged up after representing their countries — the most recent being Dejan Lovren.

The defender picked up an abdominal injury while training with Croatia and he’ll be another late decision when Liverpool travels to Loftus Road on Sunday. “He will hopefully be fine for the weekend” said Rodgers when asked about the availability of the 25-year old.
