Jordan Henderson Named Liverpool Vice-Captain
It’s official: ahead of tomorrow’s return to the Champions League, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has been named the Reds newest vice-captain.
The 24-year old was famously tipped to leave the club during Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers first season in charge, but after being convinced to stay and fight for his place, the ex-Sunderland man has now come full circle. “Jordan is someone who represents the best values of what we are all about, as a team and as a club,” said boss Brendan Rodgers following the announcement. “Both he and Steven are examples to others in how they conduct themselves on and off the pitch. It’s how they live their lives, it’s how they train and it’s how they approach their work.”
Following the departure of Daniel Agger to Brondy during a busy transfer window, the vacancy was just waiting to be filled — and there really was no one more deserving than Henderson.
“There’s a great story of him joining here, when he came in and had a difficult season. The first summer I came here he had the opportunity to leave,” continued the Reds boss before commenting on his amazing turnaround. “You see now for club and country he holds himself really well, he’s got a great stature and I think he will be around here for years to come.”
Congratulations on a well deserved appointment Jordan.
