Daniel Agger Lines Up Brondby Return

Steppin’ out.

Despite being linked with a host of Champions League level clubs over the summer, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger looks set to return to Brondby before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has stuck to the mantra that the experienced center back is both going nowhere and that he’d be loathe to lose him all summer, but the club looks set to allow one of the best servants they’ve had in the modern era to return home to finish his career with the club that started it all for a “nominal fee“. And really, good for them — it’s really hard to think of a player that deserves it more.

After losing out 2-1 to the Danish outfit in a pre-season friendly, Brondby chairman Bech Andersen told the press that they were working on bringing the 29-year old back to the club and that they’d go “a long way” to accomplish their goal. In this earlier hour it sounds like they’ve gone just far enough to pull that off.

With Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel all fighting for places in the starting eleven, Agger looked set for another season on the bench anyways. It’s hard to tell whether Rodgers just doesn’t rate him or if he’d rather just play the players he brought in to the club, but should this transfer go through, it would be the the universe righting itself — because, really, if you have something bad to say about a top level player who has wanted nothing more than to do what’s right by the club he so obviously loves, then you suck.

More on this as I sober up and it’s made official.

only 3m for Agger, these are the type of deals Ayre do, and if they sell him after 1 year lets say for 10m, what does LFC get in return? Also I would like to know if he’s going to get a pay off to leave, he doesn’t deserve it if he’s seeking the move. Another bad deal by the ever erratic Ayre

It’s a farewell gift to one of the best servants in LFC. Farewell Agger, YNWA.
