Alvaro Dominguez Refuses to Expand on Liverpool Interest
Although Liverpool’s search for a top class striker is taking all the headlines, rumours persist that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will look to add to his defensive options before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
With Kolo Toure confirming that he’ll be on Merseyside for the coming campaign after rejecting the advances of Turkish side Trabzonspor, at least one central defender is expected to depart Anfield by September 1st with Daniel Agger, who has been linked to everyone from Brondby to Tottenham Hotspur, and Sebastian Coates, who was reportedly offered to Italian side Sampdoria, looking the most likely to make way.
As Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho battle it out for a starting spot and Toure effectively acting as cover in case of a catastrophe, the question why Liverpool are being linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Alvaro Dominguez remains to be seen.
“I can tell you nothing. It is my agent who looks after these things” he told German media outlet Express when asked about the speculation regarding his future. “We’ll see what happens in the coming days. I don’t know either what my situation here will be.”
While a move for the 25-year old doesn’t sound quite so bad on paper, the tentative link and practicality of it sound a little suspect considering the wealth of options Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has when it comes to central defenders.
