Daniel Sturridge Sent Home from Pre-Season with Hamstring Problem
Following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Italian giants AC Milan in the Guinness International Champions Cup yesterday, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that striker Daniel Sturridge had returned to England to treat a slight hamstring strain.
The 24-year old, who played no part in the match, has also been joined by fellow Englishmen Adam Lallana and Jon Flanagan who have also returned to the UK to work on their fitness. Although the Northern Irishman is saying that this latest injury is nothing to be concerned about, following Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona and QPR striker Loic Remy’s failed medical, the need to bring in another top-class striker has only been highlighted as time continues to tick down in the transfer window.
“Dan has flown back to the UK. He wasn’t going to be ready for the game on Monday – but there’s no concern there, he’ll be ready for Borussia Dortmund at the weekend” the boss told the official website in his post-match press conference. “It was just best to get him back early, back to the training ground so he could get some treatment there. He had a really, really slight feeling in his hamstring. It’s nothing major.”
Liverpool will square off against Premier League rivals Manchester United without their star striker in the final of the Guinness International Champions Cup on Monday before welcoming German side Borussia Dortmund to Anfield the following Sunday. If all goes to plan, Sturridge will be up and firing before the season kicks off a week from then.
