VIDEO: Liverpool Avoid Greek Tragedy in Chicago

Raheem Sterling Goal Liverpool vs Olympiakos 1… by newandvideos

After falling 1-0 to AS Roma in Boston, Liverpool got their Guinness International Champions Cup campaign off to a great start by downing Greek powerhouses Olympicos at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

The Reds have had a bit of a mixed bag so far with a loss to Danish side Brondby and a win over League One outfit Preston North End leading up to the meeting with the Italian’s at Fenway Park. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has used these matches to bed in a number of their new signings with new boy Lazar Markovic making his first appearance for the club since his big-money move from Portuguese side Benfica.

While a lot of the emphasis was on new faces, it was one that was a bit more familiar that really provided the spark in the opening exchanges when Raheem Sterling showed his predatory instincts in snatching up Daniel Sturridge’s deflected strike to finish coolly past Olympiaco’s ‘keeper Balazs Megyeri.

“I’m really pleased with how it’s all coming along,” Rodgers told the official website following the match. “The World Cup players have only really just come back. They’ve only really been with the squad in the last week or so. “I’ve been delighted. I know this group well and know the players coming in are suited and will fit what we’re trying to do.”

Up next for the Reds is a meeting with Premier League rivals Manchester City before they come up against another familiar face in Seria A side AC Milan. Should Liverpool top their group, they’ll square off against the other group winner in the finale of the Champions Cup in Miami before returning to Anfield to face German side Borussia Dortmund one week before the start of the Premier League season.

I think the biggest positive surprise is that Coats was dropped for being too slow… Well he is not Slow any more… Far from it, despite his size he is now really fast. He might be worth holding onto this year.
