VIDEO: Uruguay President Takes a Shot at “Fascist” FIFA over Suarez Ban

The president of Uruguay has been anything but diplomatic since FIFA handed out a four month ban from all footballing matters to their favourite native son Luis Suarez in the wake of the troubled strikers latest indiscretion. Although the man himself could only come up with a less than convincing explanation for his alleged bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini, the punishment isn’t sitting well with some — including José Mujica.
“They’re a bunch of old bastards,” the Uruguayan president told television cameras while waiting, alongside a large number of supporters, at the airport for the national team to return from the World Cup following their elimination at the hands of Colombia on Friday. “They could be sanctioned, but not fascist sanctions.”
Though the dissenting voices are few and far between, there have been many who have objected to the severity of the ban handed down to Suarez which not only prevent him from playing football for both club and country over the next four months, but also keep him from training with his team or even entering a football stadium.
Speculation remains rife that the Reds star striker, who scored 31-goals over the course of last seasons Premier League campaign, will be sold this summer with Barcelona his likely destination. The Uruguayan football association plan to appeal the ruling, but no matter what the outcome, he’ll have the support of Mujica and the rest of his native land.
