VIDEO: Gerrard Laughs off Lampard Conundrum

Ahead of tonight’s friendly with Peru at Wembley, it was a typical England press conference with boss Roy Hodgson trotting out the old football cliches and captain Steven Gerrrard having to answer questions about playing with Frank Lampard.

Despite bringing up the fact that there’s all kinds of competition for every spot in the squad and that there’s a number of extremely talented youngsters — namely Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson — nipping at the heels of the more established veterans, one journalist couldn’t help but bring up the age old problem of Gerrard and Lampard being unable to play together. Having heard this a million times, and with it’s relevance being almost nil at this point, the England captain couldn’t help but laugh.

“‘Gerrard and Lampard’, are we not bored of that one yet?” asked the Liverpool man sarcastically before urging the journalist to finish their question. The captain, of course, went on to give a straight answer, explaining how world class players need to adapt to play together and how there’s only the team and not individuals, but his obvious bemusement at the question vastly outweighed whatever the journalist may have hoped to have gained by proposing such a banal scenario in the first place.

Gerrard and Lamps could always play together but people seem to forget that they played in a 4231 and a 433 system. In other words in order to play will together then needed an extra DM to sit back (in a 433 system) Now but are old and playing a DM role they would both be sitting back as DM’s in a 4231 system. However that is assuming that Lamps is even good enough to still make it into the 1st 11.
