Liverpool’s Meeting with Sunderland Postponed
Although the Reds dropped out of the FA Cup yesterday at the hands of Arsenal, Craig Gardner’s dipping shot was enough to see Sunderland down Southampton and secure progression to the next round.
The Black Cats, who were due to travel to Anfield on the 10th of March, will now face either Championship outfit Brighton and Hove Albion or fellow Premier League strugglers Hull City on either the 8th or 9th of March, leaving their trip to Merseyside to be rescheduled. Gus Poyet’s side also have a trip to Wembley on the cards a week before they’re due to continue on in the FA Cup, with their Capital One Cup final meeting with Manchester City pencilled in for March 2nd.
The change in dates hands Liverpool an extra long lay-off with just over a fortnight between their trip to St. Mary’s on March 1st, when they take on Southampton, to their short jaunt up the road to Old Trafford where they’ll meet David Moyes struggling Manchester United side on March 16th.
Although confirmation was only given today that the match would be postponed, a rearranged date has yet to be agreed between the two sides. The Weirside outfit have also had to changes dates with West Bromwich Albion at home and Manchester City with their recent cup exploits and bad weather coupling to hand them a jam-packed close to the season as they struggle to stay in the Premier League.
