Granada Eye Loan Move for Liverpool Defender Tiago Ilori
It’s all gone a bit quiet around the News Desk this morning, but there are reports coming in that one of our youngsters could be heading out on loan. After less than six months on Merseyside, summer arrival Tiago Ilori could be set for a temporary move to Spain with mid-table La Liga side Granada keen on the promising 20-year old as they look to weather the storm that’s sure to come in the business end of the season.
The youngster has figured heavily for the Liverpool reserves this season, but he’s yet to make his full senior debut despite being named on the bench on three occasions already and Brendan Rodgers previously confirmed that he could possibly go out on loan to get some first team experience. The Andalusian club has reportedly made an enquiry for the availability of the Portuguese center half with a view to taking him on loan for the remainder of the season. Granada has a loan spot free in their side after cutting short Udinese left-back Matías Campos Toro’s time in Spain who didn’t make a single appearance under manager Lucas Alcaraz. Ilori, on the other hand, could see a significant amount of playing time should he move.
The 20-year old, who made the switch to Merseyside on transfer deadline day from the Sporting Lisbon B Team, could be looking at a pairing with another promising youngster in Granada’s own Jeison Murillo. The Colombian has been turning heads with some outstanding performances in La Liga and is considered an up and coming talent – much like Ilori.
During the summer, while searching for cover for Jose Enrique, we attempted to buy fullback Guilherme Siqueira from the Andalusian club, but a deal couldn’t be struck and for one reason or another and he was sent out to Benfica on loan. This time we’re not trying to snap up any of their players, we’re just sending them a £7mil one to get some first team experience. With the Reds fully stocked with center halves, there’s little chance of the youngster breaking into the side. A loan to a European club that playing in the top level would be a boon for all parties involved – Ilori included.
Not going to happen especially now with all our defensive injuries.
With Sakho coming back in and Martin Kelly resembling fit again, you never know…
It’s just Agger that’s crocked at the moment and we’re all used to that!
Yeah I think a Loan would be best for both sides… However I would like to see a loan to a Football league 1 side, as that will help him to learn to deal with the more physical side of British Football.
