Conspiracy Theory: M’Vila to Liverpool after Jorginho Signs for Napoli?

On the move?
The News Desk sure has been talking a lot about Napoli this season and with the Italian side apparently close to snapping up Hellas Verona controller Jorginho, their move for Rubin Kazan defensive midfielder – and reported Liverpool target – Yann M’Vila could fall quickly by the wayside.

The Reds were also linked with a move for the Brazilian over the summer, but the 22-year old has stayed in Italy and has scored seven goals already this campaign helping his side to a surprising fifth place in the Serie A table. Although he’s coveted by Verona boss Andrea Mandorlini, the player’s agent has confirmed that if a suitable offer comes in he’ll be allowed to leave. As Napoli reportedly prepare a £8.34mil bid, the role M’Vila was slated to play at Gli Azzurri could already be filled before talks get underway.

It was reported over the weekend that both Liverpool and Napoli had loan bids for the French midfielder denied by Rubin Kazan and that both teams would be going back for the player with a permanent move on the table in the coming days. Whether or not any of the initial report is true remains to be seen, but the news that Jorginho is set for a switch to Naples sounds like Rafa Benitez may be following through with another option. “He can leave Verona now if he receives a great offer – if an important proposal arrives it is fair that the player is allowed to leave,” Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos told TMW. “In Italy there are three or four teams who can pay for him and Napoli is one of them. Napoli is one of the most important clubs in Italy.”

If Rubin Kazan are interested in letting the French midfielder move on, they’ll be keen on getting the most they can for him. It’s all conspiracy theory at this point, but if Benitez is successful in snapping up Jorginho then Liverpool could be free to move in for M’Vila with a significant advantage now that a major player providing leverage has been removed from negotiations – just a thought.

Not sure about this as its clear Gerrard is going to be playing the holding role also Lucas quite clear we would strengthen left side of the pitch or attacking mid

I think he’ll continue there if we don’t bring someone in, but I also think Rodgers wants to strengthen.

    From the BBC:

Asked whether England captain Gerrard would continue play in that position, Rodgers said: “It is something I will look at. He’s someone who fits the profile of that role. He does it a bit more with England.

“I have spoken to him a lot about it and it was just about timing. We saw today that he played really well. Steven showed great leadership as well.”

Rodgers added he would still like to strengthen his squad but added he would only do that if the “right quality is there”

Nothing definitive, obviously, but fuel for the fire.

Really not sure what one transfer has to do with the other. It’s like saying Juventus have decided not to pursue Gattuso because they have decided on Kaka. One is an ultra defensive holding midfielder and the other an attacking midfielder/inside forward. I also doubt Verona would consider selling their best player when they are in contention for a European spot.

Despite not being like for like players, both sit comfortably in front of the defence. A player like Jorginho, who can create as well as control, could negate the need for a all out defensive midfielder like M’Vila.

I’m admitedly no expert on Serie A football — or either player for that matter — but I could see the Brazilian moving to Napoli either stalling their move for M’Vila or wiping it out completely.

There’s only so many slots in the side and both players would likely command a starting role in Rafa’s midfield.

    Again, it’s just a thought.
