Luis Suarez “Bite” Banner Makes an Appearance as Uruguay Lead Jordan

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but with a banner appearing showing Luis Suarez biting Branislav Ivanovic, the News Desk is just surprised it came out of Jordan rather than one of the many Premier League clubs that jeers the Liverpool striker week in and week out.

Uruguay is in the midst of the first round of their World Cup Play-Off with the Middle Eastern Country as we speak – and up by two might we add – with the winner of the two legged tie being granted a spot in next summer’s show-piece event. The banner, which is quite well made if we do say so ourselves, depicts the Liverpool striker taking a chunk out of the Chelsea defender in what became the most controversial, and talked about, incidents of last season and demands that Suarez leaves the Jordanian players alone.

Yesterday, a very sombre Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, the king of Jordan’s half brother and the president of the Jordanian Football Association, as well as a Fifa vice-president, spoke of the meeting with Uruguay being “the biggest match” in his country’s history. “We are on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup. There’s been a lot of hard work from players and officials and coaches to get here” said the Prince, while Suarez – who is currently cruising with his side two goals to the good – warned against being complacent against the Middle Eastern minnows.

Complacency, it would seem, hasn’t come into it with goals from Christian Stuani and Maxi Pereira putting La Celeste in the driver’s seat. While it was always unlikely that Jordan would be able to take down the South American powerhouses, in the very least, they’ll be crashing out with a sense of humour.
