VIDEO: Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville Squabble Over Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard

With former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher and former Manchester United fullback Gary Neville as pundits on the same show, it was only a matter of time before the two went head to head; it’s no surprise to anyone — bar the truly football ignorant — that it came, the only truly surprising thing was that it didn’t come sooner — in the end, all it took was a three names to spark an all out war.

The two of them were asked to rank Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard as midfield players — as if you needed a better catalyst for a fight. Carragher, a European Cup winner with Liverpool and the current England captain’s best friend, made the obvious choice in choosing Gerrard as top dog and placed Lampard above Scholes by a whisker. Neville, who was United captain for five years, obviously wasn’t having that and had the audacity to name the “Ginger Genius” along with Barcelona midfielder Xavi and Italian great Andrea Pirlo.

Maybe the News Desk is a bit biased, but it we’re going to count Carragher the winner when, near the end of the video, he lands a decisive — although admittedly cheap — blow to finally silence the United man. Though we wish Carragher was still wearing Liverpool red, seeing him shut Gary Neville up, even in retirement, is almost as pleasing as seeing him do it on the field.

this is great….Carra’s still a brilliant competitor….neville knows his shit but carragher is more than a match in this exchange – love the eriksson and veron questions from Jamie…nEVILle on the ropes for sure Agree with him as well…lampard and gerrard ultimately attained a higher level as being a metronome is all well and good but scholes influence wained as an attacking force far too many years ago for him to be held in the same breadth as the other two…i love stevie but if lampard scroes approx twenty again this season youd have to put only a hairs breath between him and gerrard at the top of this particular pile…his goalscoring record for a midfielder at his age is nothing short of amazing….he’ll never be anything like the leader of men that gerrard is but all those goals are hard to ignore…Stevie still but not by as much as he was 2 years ago…lets hope he scores some more like his man city goal(volley earlier this year) this season…i know the reasons why but those types of goals just dont happen nearly enough anymore.
