Tonight, as he captained his side to a 4-0 rout of visitors Moldova, the Scouse skipper put an exclamation mark on his statement by opening the scoring in style.

Gerrard, whose Liverpool side currently sit atop of the Premier League table, found the net for his country for the first time in 3 years with a low, swerving strike from distance that eluded Stanislav Nama?co as it slipped in the bottom corner.
