VIDEO: Steven Gerrard on the Board Against Moldova

Earlier in the day Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard responded to new FA chairman Greg Dykes assertions that England have no chance of winning the World Cup next summer in Brazil by letting the world know he doesn’t think the Three Lions are as weak as he might think. Tonight, as he captained his side to a 4-0 rout of visitors Moldova, the Scouse skipper put an exclamation mark on his statement by opening the scoring in style.

Gerrard, whose Liverpool side currently sit atop of the Premier League table, found the net for his country for the first time in 3 years with a low, swerving strike from distance that eluded Stanislav Nama?co as it slipped in the bottom corner. England now sit top of their group with a trip the Ukraine coming up on Tuesday. Although no one expects Roy Hodgson’s side to run away with the World Cup now that they’ve vanquished the unstoppable juggernaught that is Moldova, it’s nice to see a response in the face of an overly critical FA chairman. Isn’t football all about support?
